Biography Of Philip Medcalf & David Eyres, The Owners’

Philip and David have known each other for many years from their early days of clubbing and pubbing.

Philip at the time was working for a major estate agent in Reading plus he was also involved in a small publication / guide in Reading, while David was in the building trade with his own carpentry business.

Philip and David decided to join forces and set up a successful business called Galsworthy Construction and Lettings.  As the years passed by they decided there was a gap in the market for a new unique style of bar.  So they decided to look for suitable location and came up with Caversham in Reading (By the River Thames).

This is where Mellows Bar was created and enjoyed by all for a period of 5 years originally opening in the winter of 1993 and sold in the winter of 1998.

The reason the decision was taken to successfully sell Mellows Bar in Caversham was because the tide was turning for the Reading social scene in which it all centred on Reading town centre where the Breweries setup the so called Super Clubs and Bars etc. And also there was the opening of the Oracle shopping Development.

So the conclusion was that both Philip and David felt that they needed a change of direction and to take time out individually for themselves before venturing into their next business together.

Since Mellows Bar was sold, Philip and David have set up a new business based on a previous business.  The new business being called Mellows Construction and Letting in Reading and Bournemouth.

Also Philip and David are involved with other projects, Philip is involved with his Music and his Record Label and David is a part time Teacher in Carpentry.

Philip and David have been in regular contact over the years, with the Followers and Friends of Mellows Bar through the Mellows Email Address.

The idea was suggested to Philip and David by the Followers and Friends of Mellows Bar to arrange a Mellows Bar Friends Reunited, “Reunion Nights”, and also to set up a Website for Mellows Bar including information of Mellows / Flyers / Photos of Customers / Staff & DJ’s etc.

Philip and David have taken advice and suggestions from their Followers and Friends of Mellows Bar, and have now decided the time is right to setup a Mellows Website and Reunion Nights for the future.

We have also included a latest photograph of Philip and David, out socialising in Bournemouth at the New Exclusive Landmarc / Jimmy’s Club.
