The Style, The Outlook and The Location

Mellows Bar, owned by Philip Medcalf and David Eyres, was one of the first Bars in Reading of it Style, at the time in 1993.  Combining great food and coffee culture and beverages in the day / evening, with a Cosmopolitan / Continental outlook, and located by the River Thames.  The Bar was opened by The Mayor and Mayoress of Reading.

You could relax to soft background music and choose from a selection of fine teas, coffees, wines, beers and light snacks with a full menu available.  Cream teas served in the afternoon and available on the patio area ideal for families. 

Daily newspapers and free postcards were provided, plus stamps for sale at the bar.  Mellows also had a free Loyalty card, where you would get it stamped upon your visit and receive various discounts and free deals.

Mellows Bar, Staff and Customers regularly donated to the local charities and main charities with donations to Lifeboat Trust, Cancer Trust and Aids Red Ribbons.

Also Mellows were Visited and Filmed by the BBC Program Homemakers, presented by Tessa Shaw, who were interested in Mellows Unique Style and Design, which was screened on BBC in April 1997.  The crew were following Home Buyers, buying properties in the Reading area and giving them home tips on style and design.

Mellows have had various local Celebrities visiting the bar which have included footballers from Reading Football Club, Miss Winslet (Actress/Singer), Tessa Shaw  (BBC).

In the Evening this is when Mellows Bar comes into its own Style of Cool Music from Jazz to soulful Funky House beats featuring Top Reading DJ's plus Guests, with various themed nights.

Serving a wide selection of alcoholic drinks and beverages, which have been selected from around the world, and including regular drinks promotions.
